Position Overview

The Fixed Income Portfolio Manager works within a collaborative team of experienced investment professionals and client service specialists to deliver wealth management services to Clifford Swan clients. As a member of the Fixed Income team, the fixed income portfolio manager provides strategic, trading, and analytical support to the group on a collaborative basis.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate economic data, market conditions, and industry trends impacting fixed income markets.
  • Analyze current market rates, yield curves, spreads, and interest rate structures to support investment decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing implementation of the firm’s fixed income strategy in collaboration with the Fixed Income team.
  • Exercise investment discretion over the fixed income allocation within client portfolios in accordance with client objectives and firm guidelines.
  • Review fixed income offerings, evaluate investment opportunities, and maintain relationships with broker/dealer counterparts.
  • Conduct fundamental credit analysis of corporate, municipal, government, and agency issuers.
  • Evaluate portfolio characteristics, structure, duration, sector exposure, and risk metrics; recommend and implement portfolio adjustments as appropriate.
  • Prepare investment analyses, reports, charts, and presentation materials for client meetings and internal discussions.
  • Draft clear, professional client communications and collaborate effectively with counseling and client service teams to support client relationships.
  • Communicate fixed income strategies, portfolio positioning, market outlook, and performance results to both internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute market commentary and educational content for the firm’s newsletter, client communications, and other thought leadership materials.
  • Identify and support enhancements to fixed income trading, portfolio management, and credit research processes, including the effective use of technology and analytical tools.
  • Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives related to fixed income research, trading, and portfolio management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in investment management and/or financial advisory services, preferably with a registered investment adviser.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  • Must have in-depth, hands-on experience as fixed income analyst and portfolio manager with strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial products, investment strategies, and industry regulations.
  • Experiential examples of the desire and ability to work successfully in an entrepreneurial, small-company environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to assign priorities to multiple concurrent, competing requests while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Regularly demonstrating the ability to identify problems and delivering related, unsolicited, creatively curated solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Bloomberg, FactSet, MSRB/EMMA, RedBlack and Orion Advisor Services, Microsoft Office products and experience with portfolio management and document management software.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship or restrictions.

Expected base salary for the role will generally be $150,000 – $175,000 per annum at the commencement of employment with a target annual bonus of 35% of base salary. However, the base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include other forms of compensation such as discretionary bonuses, incentive packages, and firm-sponsored benefit programs.
